The Psychology & Counselling Special Interest Group was founded in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1993 some eight years after the founding of its governing body - the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE). Currently, there are 247 ESHRE members affiliated to the SIG Psychology & Counselling (21/01/09).

Consistent with the aims of ESHRE the Psychology & Counselling Special Interest Group was established to address the psychosocial issues and needs of patients and professionals working in infertility.
