Course Description/Aims:
The course aims to supply a broad view and up to date information on the state of the art in reproductive treatments to couples in which at least one partner is infected with HIV.Specific objectives of the program include:1. Increase the knowledge of reproductive health professionals on the issue of HIV infection in the era of fully suppressive antiretroviral medication, its impact on fertility and on the risk of HIV transmission2. Teach course attendees the prevalent reproductive techniques used in couples in which the man, woman or both partners are infected with the HIV virus3. Discuss the dynamics of HIV secretion in semen/vaginal fluids and its impact on transmission risk and on safer conception options available to couples with HIV4. Illustrate the clinical management of pregnant HIV+ women with view on the prevention of mother to child transmission in the era of combined antiretroviral medication5. Review the pre-requisites for setting up and managing a successful reproductive assistance program to couples with HIV6. Present the results of the European registry on couples with HIV trying to conceive
