Teaching aims & course description

A two day basic course for nurses, lab technicians and other personnel new to the field wanting to improve their basic knowledge of underlying causes, treatment and psychological aspects of infertility. It will also enable nurses, lab technicians and other related personnel to network and exchange information across Europe.
The course will cover anatomy and physiology, causes and diagnosis, life style factors affecting infertility, counseling and communication skills, fertility drugs and treatment options and interactive discussions
At the end of the course the delegates are expected to have a basic understanding of all of the above to enable them to provide a minimum standard of care and equip them for further learning and professional development.
For laboratory technicians who want to apply for the Clinical Embryologist certification in Istanbul 2012 it is an opportunity to refresh the basis knowledge.

A few years ago, a textbook for paramedics was published in the Netherlands (in Dutch). It covers specific information related to clinical and laboratory aspects of reproductive medicine, which also made it suitable for use at the level of higher professional education (MSc level).   The Dutch book was the basis for this European textbook in the English language.

Course objectives 

At the end of the course the delegates are expected to have a basic understanding of all of the above to enable them to provide a minimum standard of care and equip them for further learning and professional development.

Registrations

Registrations are only possible online here. Registrations are limited to 100 participants. For availability of places, please check the ESHRE Calendar.

The following fees apply:

Early registration fees (until 10 May 2012):
1. Members of ESHRE = 150 Euro
2. Non-members of ESHRE = 250 Euro
3. Student/Paramedical members of ESHRE = 100 Euro
4. Student/Paramedical non-members of ESHRE* = 150 Euro

Onsite registration fees (from 10 May 2012 onwards):
1. Members of ESHRE = 200 Euro
2. Non-members of ESHRE = 350 Euro
3. Student/Paramedical members of ESHRE = 150 Euro
4. Student/Paramedical non-members of ESHRE* = 250 Euro

* “Student” applies to undergraduate, graduate and medical students, residents and post-doctoral research trainees. * “Paramedical” applies to support personnel such as nurses/midwives, laboratory technicians, counselors/psychologists/social workers, ESHRE certified clinical embryologists (Bsc level). Embryologists have to register at the ordinary membership fee unless we receive a letter in which their Head of Department confirms they work in a routine environment as a lab technician.

Registrations for students and paramedicals must be accompanied by a letter from the Head of the Department to prove their status. This letter has to be faxed to the ESHRE Central Office (+32 2 269 56 00) or sent by email (info@eshre.eu).

Deadline early registration: 10 May 2012. Registrations can only be validated and confirmed when accompanied by payment. Please make sure ESHRE receives payment by this date. Only participants who register before this date, will receive a box with the course material. Participants registered after this date will received the same course material, but without the box.

PLEASE NOTE! The preferred methods of payment are either by bank transfer or credit card. Cheques and bank drafts will not be accepted.

Cancellation policy 

All cancellations should be made in writing. An administrative fee of 25 Euro will be charged for all cancellations. Cancellations received after 24 April 2012 will not be refunded.

Social events

Buffet dinner

A buffet dinner will be organized in the hotel on the evening of 24th May at 19:00.
Participation is optional and tickets for this dinner will be 75 Euro per person.

After the dinner the participants are invited to Tivoli, where they can have coffee and cake or ice cream.

This world-famous nineteenth century amusement park and gardens in the very heart of Copenhagen is one of the city’s major tourist attractions. Try some of its old and trusted rides, like the roller-coaster and, if you feel up to it, its latest addition the crazy Vertigo, an experience not for the faint-hearted. If more sedate pursuits are more to your liking, Tivoli has lots to interest the cultural tourist. Friday Night Rock plays host to big international and Danish names throughout the summer, and open air concerts can be enjoyed free of charge on the Promenade, while Tivoli’s Summer Revue showcases well-known Danish actors and performers. At weekends Tivoli rounds off the evening with spectacular fireworks displays.

Informal buffet in Sperm Bank Cryos’ Copenhagen Department
After the last session on Friday the 25th May all participants are invited to an informal buffet in Sperm Bank Cryos’ Copenhagen Department. It is only a small collective department, but Cryos has promised that they will try to make a cozy atmosphere and have plenty of food, beer and wine, so everybody can have a nice evening together.
Participation is free of charge, but participants need to register for this event.

This event is fully booked, it is no longer possible to register for it.

DGI-Byen is located in the center of Copenhagen, only a few minutes walking from Copenhagen's Central Station.  

Coming from the airport 

Coming from the airport by train to Copenhagen Central Station the trip takes around 20 minutes and costs approximately 32 DKK* per person, a taxi costs approximately 250 DKK*.
