Webber Current status of the guideline: (last update: 01/09/2011)The guideline development group is currently occupied with writing the key questions.The next GDG group meeting is not yet planned.Scope of the Guideline:This guideline aims to offer best practice advice for the management of women with premature ovarian insufficiency, including the management of older women who initially presented under the age of 40 years. Adolescents presenting with failure of puberty will be discussed in short and a section on puberty induction is included in the guideline. This guideline aims to assist health care professionals in the initial assessment of premature ovarian insufficiency including setting the diagnosis, determining the causation and performing basic assessments. Furthermore guidance is provided on the management of premature ovarian insufficiency and the consequences of the condition and/or hormone replacement therapy. In this guideline, bone health, cardiovascular problems, life expectancy and psychosexual, psychological and neurological implications are discussed. A broad section is dedicated to fertility issues, including fertility preservation (prior to potentially sterilizing procedures) and fertility treatment, but also assessment of fitness for pregnancy and obstetric risks specific to patients with premature ovarian failure. This guideline aims to improve the holistic care of women suffering from premature ovarian insufficiency in Europe.
