Good news!
This year we received a total of 1539 abstracts (+17% to 2009). 138 of these were rejected at the pre-screening stage. In total 1401 abstracts were reviewed and a selection made for 44 oral communication sessions and posters. Authors will be notified next week, whether their abstract has been accepted of not.
More good news!
To date 2 859 square metres of net surface have been allocated to exhibitors in hall 5. The process of stand allocation is still ongoing and due to high demand ESHRE will extend its exhibition area to hall 6.
Even more good news!

ECCO's Annual Meeting - reveals insight on pregnancy, breast feeding and breast cancer
With the European Cancer Organisation’s Annual Meeting this month, we saw much coverage of different news items related to fertility preservation and oncology. Several studies were related to pregnancy, breast feeding and breast cancer.
Two studies reveal associations between pregnancy, breast-feeding, breast cancer and survival Study suggests pregnant women can receive chemotherapy for breast cancer without endangering the health of their babiesPregnancy for breast cancer survivors: meta-analysis reveals it is safe and could improve survivalHealth professionals need to address fertility issues in young women with breast cancer in order for them to make informed decisions
Gamete donation – what is appropriate compensation?Several articles picked up on the issue of appropriate compensation of sperm and egg donors. With countries like Britain facing a shortage of sperm and egg donors, other possibilities are being explored by clinics and fertility centres.
An article on the raffle of a human egg offered in London caused outrage across many areas, from ethicists to professionals in the field of reproduction. The American Genetics & IVF Institute in Virginia organised a seminar in the London Bridge fertility centre where one of the participants could win a free cycle of donor egg IVF in the US. This allowed the patient to get around Britain’s shortage of donor eggs and fertility laws. Read more >In the meantime clinics in Scotland are trying to overcome sperm donor shortages with creative advertising campaigns, one of them offers ‘free breakfast’ in exchange for a sperm sample. Read more > A second advert touches the altruistic side of donors by showing them how their sperm can change the live of a family. Read more >In America, the Hastings Centre Report which analysed college advertisements for egg donations, showed that one quarter of all advertisements offered more than $ 10,000 and/or listed specific requirements such as ethnicity or appearance. Both violate guidelines published by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). Read more> In Turkey regulations have just recently been tightened and prohibit women from going abroad and receive treatment that is not available at home. These new restrictions, as the Telegraph reports, will prevent Turkish clinics acting as agencies to send women to Greece for example to receive artificial insemination. The criminal code in Turkey forbids to conceal the paternity of the child. Read more >
Acupuncture – no help for fertility treatmentThe British Fertility Society (BFS) recently issued new guidelines on the use of acupuncture and Chinese medicine in fertility treatment. The guidelines show no evidence that these alternative therapies increase the likelihood of a subsequent pregnancy when applying them during the course of fertility treatment. Read more >
