Besides training courses, the SIGA can offer a comprehensive program for External Quality Assessment of the methods described in the Manual on Basic Semen Analysis and taught at the Basic Semen Analysis Courses. The scheme consists of two annual distributions of material which is analyzed in each laboratory. The results are returned to the scheme were data are compiled and the overall distribution of results are sent out to the participating laboratories together with general comments and suggestions. Each participating laboratory is also entitled to individual advice from the scheme organizers. All material received that can be stored can be used by the individual laboratory as archive material with known values. The scheme, which is self supported and therefore depending on a nominal fee for the services offered, is administrated on behalf of the SIGA by the Andrology Laboratory, Centre for Andrology and Sexual Medicine, Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, Stockholm, Sweden.
