Hilary Critchley is Professor of Reproductive Medicine at the University of Edinburgh (UK) and a clinical Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. She is Head of the Division of Reproductive and Developmental Sciences at the University of Edinburgh.
Her laboratory-based research studies focus upon local uterine mechanisms involved in menstruation, implantation and interruption/loss of early pregnancy. Fundamental studies on endometrial physiology in these areas have made contributions to the understanding of endometrial biology particularly regarding mechanisms regulating the onset of menstruation and unscheduled bleeding complaints with long term progestogen only methods of contraception. Clinical areas of study include assessment and evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding and novel imaging of the uterus.
Since 2009 she has been Coordinator of the ESHRE Special Interest Group in Endometriosis and Endometrium (SIGEE) and previously (2006-9) was
Deputy Coordinator.
