Claudia Spits was born in Girona (Spain) in 1977, and studied Biology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In 2002 she completed a Master on preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) at the Department of Cell Biology of the same university and moved to Brussels to join the PGD team of the Centre for Medical Genetics of the UZ Brussel. In 2006 she defended her PhD thesis entitled “(R)evolution in preimplantation genetic diagnosis”, which focused on the implementation of new technologies in PGD, such as multiple displacement amplification. She currently is a post-doctoral fellow at the same department; her research now focused on the (epi)genetic characteristics of human embryonic stem cells and preimplantation embryos, with a special interest in triplet nucleotide repeat instability. She is author and co-author of 8 articles and has presented her work in numerous conferences and symposia.
