Course description

This advanced course is aimed at delegates dealing with air and environmental quality management in the lab. In particular, delegates will broaden their knowledge on the assessment, classification and monitoring of air quality, with an emphasis on the prevention, detection and removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In addition, those interested in environmental monitoring in the lab will learn methods and frequency of microbiological testing. Finally, the course will offer an update on equipment and consumables management in the lab.

Target audience

IVF laboratory directors, embryologists, IVF quality control managers

Educational needs and expected educational outcomes

The IVF laboratory is central to a good ART programme. However, guidance is presently missing on optimising air quality in the lab, in particular on air quality grading, on preventing, detecting and removing VOCs, and on managing equipment, consumables and the environment.

At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Know the importance of appropriate grades of air quality
  • Prevent, detect and remove the presence of VOCs in the lab
  • Understand how to perform environmental monitoring
  • Understand how to manage equipment and consumables

Innovative aspects of the course

This course will take the basic principles of environmental monitoring to an advanced level.

There will be time for discussion where delegates can raise difficulties from air-related questions in their own labs and ask the experts how to resolve them.
