PRECONGRESS COURSE 03
Sunday, 2 July 2017 I Room A
Cellular and molecular biology for clinical embryologists Organised by Special Interest Group Embryology
COURSE COORDINATORS
Giovanni Coticchio (Italy), Maria José de los Santos (Spain), Carlos Plancha (Portugal), Sophie Debrock (Belgium), Susanna Apter (Finland), Debbie Montjean (France), Roger Sturmey (United Kingdom)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course interprets through the lenses of cellular and molecular biology major processes and functions that support gamete maturation and preimplantation embryo development. Leading scientists will share with the audience their views and scienti c experience on topics such as cell cycle regulation, cellular correlates of fertilization, embryo transcriptome and cell fate.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Embryologists, andrologists, IVF laboratory technicians and clinicians working in reproductive medicine and science
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The laboratory methodologies by which human IVF is pursued are technically not demanding, well-established and widespread. However, many of the underpinning processes are often poorly understood or neglected. Therefore, the embryologist does not always have full awareness of the biological events he/she attempts to control in vitro, especially if outcomes are different from those expected. This course will propose a cellular an molecular view of crucial aspects of gametes and embryo function, offering participants an opportunity to better understand and the developmental processes that occur in the IVF laboratory.
