Ovarian Stimulation for IVF: individualisation and beyond..? Organised by Special Interest Group Reproductive Endocrinology
COURSE COORDINATOR
Frank Broekmans (The Netherlands)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will deliver up to date information on how ovarian stimulation for IVF can be optimised by individualisation, using tools such as response prediction, patient pro le, choice of stimulation drug, and knowledge of the physiology of folliculogenesis.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Reproductive endocrinologists, reproductive medicine specialists, paramedics in reproductive medicine, embryologists, IVF lab technicians.
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Currently, debates are ongoing on the value of individualised approach in ovarian stimulation for IVF. Both FSH dose, LH suppression drug and co-medication are used in this individualisation. However, solid evidence on the ef cacy, costs and safety/patient burden has not been delivered. With trial results of individualised dosing having recently been published, it is the right time to consider the current evidence that could be the basement for guideline building. The proposal in draft has been put forward in the SIG RE business meeting in Lisbon, June 2015. Participants have emphasized that the need for this topic to be extensively discussed is high. Educational needs are based on several putative misconceptions in this eld, such as that more is always better, that the
tool FSH has an in nite dose effect relation, and that costs do not really matter. Outcomes that may be reached are improved understanding of ovarian physiology in relation to ovarian stimulation, better awareness that FSH dosages above a certain level are inappropriate, and that safety management in this eld of elective medical care is prime. Direct translation into daily practice guidelines is therefore expected.
