History of sperm cryopreservation
Sperm cryopreservation has the longest history
• 1766 : Spallanzani first cryopreservation in snow and the capture of motile sperm
• 1949 : Polge et al. : freezing semen using glycerol as cryoprotectant
• 1953 : Bunge et al. : first case report of human pregnancy from a frozen sperm sample
• Untill today : Hundreds of thousands of children conceived by AI/IVF/ICSI with cryopreserved sperm
• 1950-2018 : cryopreservation methods are still used today
