Randomisation
• Principle:
All subjects have an equal probability of being
assigned to either group
• Computer generated random numbers
• Stratification / minimisation
Concealment and blinding
• Concealment: should always be enforced
• Numbered opaque envelopes
• Telephone randomisation
• Masking: ideal, but not always feasible
• Difficult in surgical, infertility trials
• Levels of blinding - single, double etc.
