 WELCOME TO BARCELONA
Dear Friends,
On behalf of the local organising committee and the city of Barcelona, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 34rd Annual Meeting of ESHRE.
Lying leisurely along the sunny Mediterranean coast, surrounded by the Tibidabo and Montjuïc hills, and only a ride from the Pyrrenees, Barcelona enjoys a variety of natural sceneries within a lively and multicultural environment. Such privileged position has boosted the commercial and creative spirit of Barcelona over many centuries, forging its identity and shaping its status as one of Europe most active biomedical and innovation hubs.
Reproduction remains a young branch of medicine, continuously pushing ahead for better results for our patients. The Annual Meeting of ESHRE has always been committed to highlighting these great scientific advances and encouraging the continuous progress of our specialty. This year’s congress is poised to continue this tradition, with a record breaking number of scientific abstracts submitted, almost 1900!
ESHRE’s scientific committee has brought together an outstanding international faculty to present the very latest information, controversies and future directions in this fast moving field. In addition, 16 Precongress Courses will offer a wide range of learning topics, while the scientific and commercial exhibits will present the latest in laboratory and clinical products.
In addition to this year’s outstanding scientific programme, the social programme will also be very exciting. During the opening ceremony we’ll enjoy an original performance by the world famous Fura del Baus, a company whose creativity marked the opening ceremony of the Barcelona 92 Olimpic Games. This year’s networking event will take place in a stylish venue by the sea, a true Mediterranean affair right in city centre, a perfect spot to mingle with colleagues and friends while enjoying live music and delicious tapas.
A truly multicultural powerhouse, Barcelona offers varied cultural and entertainment experiences; with more than 60 museums, dozens of theaters, open air concerts and hundreds of restaurants, there is no shortage of activities. Its beautiful beaches offer a chance to relax, recharge after a long day of scientific inquiry, and enjoy the local flavour.
Barcelona is linked to Europe and the world by its airport, motorways, and rail network. The congress venue, the CCBI, is located on the city boardwalk overlooking the Mediterranean sea, easily connected to centre city by metro and bus routes.
Welcome to another extraordinary Annual Meeting of ESHRE, welcome to Barcelona!
