200 word CV of Dr Roy G Farquharson MD FRCOG
Roy G Farquharson was born and educated in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK. Following graduation from Aberdeen University Medical School (MB.ChB) in 1975, he trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery and Neonatal Paediatrics. Basic O&G specialist training was undertaken at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and National Women’s Hospital, Auckland, NZ before completion of higher training at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, UK. His MD thesis on fetoplacental endocrinology was accepted in 1986. He was appointed FRCOG in 1993.
He worked as Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Liverpool Women’s Hospital from 1986 until 2016. In 1987, the Miscarriage Clinic was established to provide care for women suffering recurring pregnancy loss.
He was Chair of Association of Early Pregnancy Units (2006 - 2011), Co-ordinator for ESHRE Special Interest Group for Early Pregnancy (2006-10), NICE guideline group member (2010-2013) and NICE Evidence Update Advisory Group (2014) for ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage. He was an ESHRE Executive Committee member (2011-15) and was Chair of ESHRE (2017-2019). He is co-editor of Early Pregnancy (Editors, Farquharson, Stephenson and Goddijn, Cambridge University Press, 3rd edition, 2025).
