Willem Ombelet started his career researching infertility and IVF in 1984 in Pretoria, South Africa. In 1998, he obtained his PhD degree at the University of Leuven on ‘The value of sperm morphology and other semen parameters in diagnosis and treatment of human subfertility. From 2001 until 2004 he was the President of the Belgian Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. \rWillem Ombelet (co-) authored 125 international peer-reviewed articles and was a \r(co-)-editor of 21 books. He received 2 international awards. \rDr Ombelet is also the founder of the Genk Institute for Fertility Technology and the Walking Egg Foundation.\rHe is a consultant and Professor at the Universities of Hasselt ,Ghent and Antwerp.\rSince 2017 he is the coordinator of the ESHRE Special Interest Group on “Global and Socio-Cultural Aspects of infertility”. \rWillem Ombelet is the editor-in-Chief of the international scientific journal “Facts, Views & Vision in ObGyn”.
