  MR PERFORMANCE IN ADENOMYOSISS
• Diagnosisbasedonclinicalfindingsisusuallydifficultbecauseofthenonspecificnatureofthe symptoms and the frequent coexistence of other pelvic diseases.
• Ultrasoundscaniscommonlyusedastheinitialimagingmodality.
• Transvaginalultrasoundscan(TVS)isknowntobeaccurateindiagnosingadenomyosis,butit
actually has limitations in tissue characterization.
• MRimagingisalsoanaccurate,noninvasivemodalityfor diagnosingadenomyosisandmaybe more helpful thanTVSin distinguishing adenomyosis from a leiomyoma
• Adenomyosis appears as either diffuse or focal t hickening of t he junct ional zone forming an ill- defined area of low signal intensity onT2-weighted images with:
• -brightfocionT2-weightedimagesinkeepingwithmicrocysts
• -brightfocionT1-weightedimagesinkeepingwithhaemorrage
