MI : easy to learn but difficult to maintain
• Easy :
– understanding why and how it works, – techniques (ROSA, scaling questions)
• Difficult :
– to continue using it
– people do not change that easy and we loose our patience : we relapse in old habits (because we too do not change easily).
• Costly:
– cost effective ???
   • ....the findings of this systematic review which suggest that, for many practitioners, achieving proficiency in MI may take years. (Hall, Staiger et al, p 1149)
• After initial training we all fall back to our old habits of not listening enough, confronting our patients with their noncompliance, suggesting quick fixes and solutions.
• To the health practitioner : MI means also (life)stylemodification !
