   Preconception care for men
• Involvespreventionstrategiesimplementedbeforeconceptionof1st or subsequent pregnancy to improve pregnancy & infant outcomes
• Clinical care content for men should include:
– Medical & surgical history impairing reproductive health (e.g., genetic
defects, history reproductive failure) & conditions that can reduce
sperm quality (e.g., obesity, diabetes mellitus, varicocele, & STDs)
– Review of occupational or environmental exposures
– Social & risk behavior history, including mental health
– Relevant physical health & laboratories

    Basic infertility care for men
• Provide basic infertility services for male partner of an infertile
couple as per recommendations developed by professional medical
associations (e.g., American Urological Association) that includes
– Taking a comprehensive reproductive history
– Conducting a genital examination
– Obtaining a semen analysis
Infertility defined: Failure of couple to achieve pregnancy after 12 months or longer of regular unprotected intercourse
• This guidance does not highlight identifying at-risk individuals for infertility
