• 111 surrogates
• 206 intended parents:
• 65 IP respondents were gay males • 19 IPs went overseas
• 112 ‘others’:
• 9 clinicians
• 9 lawyers
• 6 social workers
• 15 academics/researchers
      A snapshot of surrogacy in the UK
• Majority of surrogates and IPs maintain ongoing relationships
• High degree of openness (and telling children at a young age)
• Very few surrogates thought they should be the legal parent at birth (most
thought it should be the IPs - and vice versa)
• Average amount a surrogate received was £10-15,000
• Payments (reimbursement) by IPs who used UK surrogates: • Highest total cost = £60,000
• Sum paid to surrogate ranged from £0 - £25,000
  • Mean expenses paid = £10,589
