Genes in gametogenesis and genetically transmitted diseases: origin, function, detection and treatment
Organised by Special Interest Group Reproductive Genetics
COURSE COORDINATORS
Claudia Spits (Belgium), Ursula Eichenlaub-Ritter (Germany), Tania Milachich (Bulgaria), Georgia Kakourou (Greece), Signe Altmäe (Estonia)
COURSE TYPE
Advanced
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course will provide information on origin and detection of maternally- and paternally-derived mutations, provide an update on some mechanisms of induction of chromosome abnormalities and their consequences
in the embryo, and will give an overview of genes in infertility and sex determination. Furthermore, it will focus also on future developments in treatment of genetic disease and in bridging the gap between basic research and clinical application.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Reproductive geneticists, embryologists, researchers, ethicists and professionals working in ART and reproductive medicine
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The rapid developments in molecular genetics, including advanced technologies and a wealth of data that have been obtained particular in the last years demand to inform clinicians, embryologists, geneticists and all involved in ART on the relevance and clinical application of information. The course will provide an overview in a series of lectures by experts in the field and by offering a platform for discussions and interactions between participants and faculty.
Chairs: Georgia Kakourou, Greece and Ursula Eichenlaub-Ritter, Germany
