 Men who don’t respond to letters
Interviews with six men who had never responded to letters from the sperm bank found:
• Their experience at diagnosis was traumatic and they had little understanding about why they had banked sperm and they did not realise that fertility could recover after cancer treatment;
• The thought of returning to the sperm bank stirred up issues they were emotionally unable to deal with and they were scared about being told they were not fertile;
• They did not want to be put under pressure to dispose of banked samples and held onto the thought of potentially fathering a child later in life (even though it was not always realistic.
