Trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Edinburgh, then appointed to the MRC Human Reproductive Sciences Unit in 1998 with a Consultant post in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Subsequently appointed to Chair of Clinical Reproductive Science at the University in 2005: over subsequent years he has established a group investigating female reproductive lifespan, with laboratory and clinical aspects particularly related to the adverse effects of cancer treatment on fertility.
