Course description
This is an in-depth course on the cryopreservation of ovarian tissue (OTC). OTC is primarily offered to cancer patients in need of urgent fertility preservation. The technique is gaining increasing use, but is a specialised task. During this course we will provide the latest knowledge on optimal freezing techniques and storage requirements, how much tissue to remove and how to autotransplant. We will also consider alternative ways of making use of the tissue. We will learn about outcomes after autotransplantation of ovarian tissue and how to improve them. We will learn about the risks of freezing and autotransplanting the tissue, and will hear about the ethical questions raised by OTC.
Target audience
Clinicians and embryologists treating patients who need fertility preservation
Expected educational outcomes
After completing the course participants will be able to identify those patients who may benefit from having ovarian tissue cryopreservation. They will be updated on the latest technical aspects of freezing and thawing the tissue, how to use it after thawing, outcomes and risks. Participants will also learn about alternatives to autotransplantation of the tissue.
The goal is to teach the participant about all aspects related to ovarian tissue cryopreservation in order to better counsel and treat patients who need fertility preservation.
Innovative aspects of the course
This is the first ESHRE Campus course specifically on cryopreservation of ovarian tissue as a means of fertility preservation. It will provide participants with the latest knowledge on the procedure from leading world experts.
