Course description

This course will provide a comprehensive update on emerging stem cell-based and embryo-directed technologies in reproductive medicine. From basic research to potential clinical implementation, topics covered by this programme will include regenerative medicine; stem cell therapy for fertility-related indications; and ethical, legal and regulatory challenges associated with clinical translation.

Target audience

Clinicians, embryologists, reproductive medicine specialists, stem cell researchers, basic scientists, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, laboratory directors, quality managers, ethicists, legal scholars, regulators and professionals involved in ART.

Educational needs and expected educational outcomes

Rapid developments in stem cell-based technologies, reproductive omics, gamete and embryo manipulation, and regenerative medicine are creating new translational opportunities in reproductive medicine. However, raises concerns around issues such as rg laboratory quality, safety standards, regulatory pathways, patient protection, and long-term follow-up.

After the course, participants should be able to understand how stem cells and regenerative therapies can be used currently in reproductive medicine. Other outcomes include attendees learning how to meet the requirements necessary to translate the science into safe and ethical care, especially around emerging gamete and embryo manipulation technologies.

Innovative aspects

The course combines multiple perspectived including scientific, clinical, and legal perspectives within one integrated programme. In addition to technological advances, the course examines the full translational pathway from bench to bedside.
