Learning objectives

This webinar explores the current evidence on the link between dietary supplements and male fertility. It will examine key weaknesses in the existing research, challenge common assumptions in male reproductive medicine that may contribute to the promotion of ineffective products, and highlight ongoing efforts to close critical knowledge gaps. The session will also discuss the implications of these findings for clinical practice and future research.

Course description

Dietary supplements are widely promoted to couples struggling to conceive, especially those undergoing infertility treatment. Many of these products claim to enhance male fertility and are heavily marketed not only to patients but also to reproductive medicine professionals—evident in the strong presence of supplement companies at medical conferences. However, the advertised benefits of these supplements often do not align with the available scientific evidence. While some may offer real advantages to certain individuals, the overall effectiveness remains uncertain.

This webinar will critically examine the role of dietary supplements in male fertility. It will review the current scientific evidence, highlight major gaps and weaknesses in the research, explore the assumptions driving product marketing, and present ongoing efforts to bridge knowledge gaps. Attendees will gain insight into the implications of these findings for clinical practice and future research directions.

Target audience

  • Clinicians involved in the evaluation and management of the infertile couple including but not limited to obstetrician gynaecologists, urologists, reproductive medicine specialists, endocrinologists and primary care providers.
  • Investigators interested in male factor infertility
  • Investigators interested in the role of nutrition and lifestyle factors on human fertility

Expected educational outcomes

At the end of the webinar participants will be able to:

  • Understand the current evidence on the relation between dietary supplementation and male fertility.
  • Critically evaluate health claims of dietary products advertised to enhance male fertility.
  • Identify underlying assumptions in male reproductive medicine that facilitate the ongoing marketing of dietary supplements to enhance male factor infertility.
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the current evidence and the implications for clinical practice.
  • Address common patient questions regarding the role dietary supplements may have on improving male fertility.
