Editor's comments

In this issue of Human Reproduction Update, the Grand Theme Review from Professors Jacques Donnez and Madeleine Dolmans presents the current and future clinical management of uterine fibroids. This timely review article, summarising both the current state of the art and developing trends, will be of high interest to gynaecologists and all reproductive medicine specialists as the prevalence of fibroids (or leiomyomas) increases globally. The last decade has been characterized by significant developments in surgical, non- invasive and pharmacological treatments of uterine fibroids; several more are under development. Dolmans and Donnez summarise the modern proposal of tailoring patient treatment according to their age, symptoms and risk factors, keeping physicians and patients fully informed on the various options with the aid of elegant illustrations and flow diagrams.
