Special Interest Group

Endometriosis and Endometrial Disorders

Welcome to the site of the Special Interest Group for Endometriosis & Endometrial Disorders (SIGEED) of the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE). Here you can read more about us, our activities and our recommended reading.

Areas of interest

The SIGEED brings together two areas of women’s health that are closely related: endometriosis and endometrial disorders.
We are interested in the role of the endometrium in reproductive physiology and in gynaecological disorders such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, and pelvic pain syndrome. The SIGEED addresses all aspects of these disorders: pathogenesis (endometrial biology), epidemiology, diagnosis, medical and surgical* treatment, quality of life and social consequences of the disease, and complementary approaches to treatment.
 (*)endometriosis and adenomyosis only

General goals

  • to organise training activities and/or sessions related to endometrial biology and endometriosis integrated into the main ESHRE meetings,

  • to contribute to the World Endometriosis Research Foundation (WERF)

  • to update guidelines for the diagnosis and management of endometriosis and endometrial disorders

  • to maximise public and European government awareness of endometriosis and endometrial disorders

Mission statement

The SIGEED combines a basic and a clinical focus on research and training related to endometriosis and endometrial disorders (e.g. endometrial pathophysiology, adenomyosis, fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain syndrome).
