Course description

This course will focus on current and emerging applications of genetics in reproductive medicine, their clinical implications, and putative medium and long-term effects. The course has been structured following the same timeline of reproductive care: pre-conceptional, pre-implantation, pre-natal and post-natal genetics. We aim at delivering basic knowledge and education with a practical goal: being able to provide our patients with updated, balanced, and informed consent regarding reproductive genetics to guide them throughout their journey.

Professionals dealing with different aspects of reproductive care, including OBGYN, clinicians, embryologists, clinical and laboratory scientists, researchers, geneticists andpsychologists.

 

Educational needs and expected outcomes

Education in the field of reproductive genetics is urgently needed. Genetics is becoming essential in reproductive care, because of its implications throughout the patients’ journey, including the prediction and management of infertility. This course aims at providing an update on the most cutting-edge technologies in this field from a multidisciplinary perspective.

  • Choose the proper genetic tests according to patients’ indications
  • Understand the strengths and limitations of the current technologies
  • Learn the clinical, social, and economic implications of the main genetic tests currently available and how to convey them during reproductive counselling

Innovative aspects

The course will provide a comprehensive overview of the application of genetic technologies in reproductive care from the perspective of P4 medicine (Prevention, Prediction, Personalisation, and Participation). All aspects (scientific, technical, clinical, psychological, ethical, and economic) will be discussed from several key opinion leaders in the field of reproductive medicine and infertility care with apical roles at Universities, Hospitals, Clinics, and Laboratories leading the way in this field.
