Global and Socio-cultural Aspects of Infertility

Welcome to the section dedicated to the SIG Global and Socio-cultural Aspects of Infertility

The SIG on Socio-cultural aspects of (in)fertility operates to gather empirical evidence, to increase theoretical insight and to promote knowledge exchanges and scientific discussions regarding the social and cultural aspects of infertility and related treatments, i.e. all the issues that lie outside of ART medical processes per se.

Aims of the Special Interest Group on Socio-cultural aspects of (in)fertility

  • To assess influence of socio-cultural elements on infertility representations and access to ART
  • To monitor Cross-border reproductive care (CBRC) in Europe and Low and Middle Income Countries
  • To assess he influence of new developments in the field of ART on mentality and attitudes in the population
  • To appraise relations between new developments and possibilities in the field of ART and societal changes
  • To compare the socio-political national differences and the impact of legislation on the use and development of ART
