Course description

Understanding the biology and function of gametes and embryos is crucial for the development of assisted reproductive techniques.

Basic knowledge and new insights on gamete formation and interaction and the events that lead to fertilisation and embryo development are fundamental for optimising current methods and developing new ones.

Several methods, including time-lapse technology, invasive and non-invasive techniques, are currently available in the IVF laboratory for the evaluation of embryo viability and developmental competence. In addition we will discuss practical clinical scenarios and learn how to approach and resolve challenging cases.

Educational needs and expected educational outcomes

Currently, there are many options for culturing and selecting gametes and embryos during fertility treatment. To increase clinical embryologists' knowledge and understanding of these techniques, which are utilized with varying degrees of success, a thorough evaluation of the most recent research is required.

By the end of the Campus workshop, the participants will have acquired the most recent information on the fundamentals, recent developments and effectiveness of various aspects of gamete and embryo biology, and related technologies currently available.

Innovative aspects of the course

The programme includes 3 breakout sessions. During these interactive sessions, participants will be divided into small groups where they will discuss practical clinical scenarios with the guidance of a senior faculty member.

The participants will have the unique opportunity to interact with the speakers in an informal and direct fashion.
