Can sperm selection techniques improve IVF success rates? Latest innovations and evidence-based approaches

ESHRE Webinar

organised by the ESHRE Special Interest Group Andrology

Type

Advanced

Learning objectives

The main objectives of the webinar are:

  • Understand the latest innovations in sperm selection techniques for assisted reproductive technologies (ART).
  • Gain insights into evidence-based approaches to improve IVF success rates through advanced sperm selection methods.
  • Explore the potential benefits and limitations of microfluidics and other emerging technologies in sperm selection.

Description

This advanced-level webinar, part of the ESHRE educational series, delves into the latest innovations in sperm selection techniques to enhance IVF success rates. The session will focus on cutting-edge technologies such as microfluidics, which aim to improve the selection of high-quality sperm cells for use in assisted reproductive techniques (ART). Participants will gain a thorough understanding of evidence-based approaches, recent research findings and clinical applications of these advanced methodologies. The course will include case studies and practical insights on integrating these technologies into clinical practice. The content will also cover comparative analyses of traditional vs. novel sperm selection methods, the biological principles underlying microfluidics and other sperm selection techniques and strategies to optimise laboratory workflows and patient outcomes.

Needs assessment process and derived educational needs

The increasing demand for improved success rates in IVF procedures has led to the need for advanced sperm selection techniques. Traditional methods may not always select the best sperm in terms of motility, morphology and DNA integrity. Emerging technologies like microfluidics offer promising results by mimicking natural sperm selection processes. This webinar addresses the educational need for healthcare professionals to stay updated on these innovations to enhance clinical outcomes in ART.

Expected educational outcomes

  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of advanced sperm selection techniques, particularly microfluidics.
  • Develop practical skills in applying these technologies in clinical settings.
  • Enhance professional development by integrating evidence-based practices into ART.
  • Cultivate a critical approach to evaluating new technologies and their impact on IVF success rates.
  • Improve higher-order thinking skills by analysing clinical data and research outcomes related to sperm selection methods.

Target audience

Embryologists, ART technicians, researchers, clinicians and other personnel involved in reproductive medicine and ART
