Course description
Couple infertility is a global health issue, and a male factor contributes to about half of cases. The correct management of the infertile male is still a challenge in several cases, especially when an infertile couple consult an ART Center and the care of the infertile man must be integrated with that of the female partner. The approach to treating the infertile male, from a correct diagnosis to a tailored medical and/or surgical treatment will be presented during this course, considering evidence-based data. The course will also discuss what the gynaecologist and embryologist expect from the andrologist and data on ART outcomes after a correct management of the infertile male.

Educational needs and expected outcomes

  • To be able to investigate the evidence-based clinical information to perform an initial framing and diagnosis of the infertile man.
  • To be able to investigate and understand the main genetic and ultrasound clues to complete a correct diagnosis of male infertility.
  • To be able to provide tailored treatment that improves male and couple fertility potential in both natural conception and ART-related outcomes.
  • To be able to manage the infertile male integrating with the female partner’s management in an ART Center.

At the end of the course, participants should have:

  • Acquired knowledge on evidence-based first and second level information to perform a correct framing and diagnosis of the infertile male.
  • Acquired knowledge on tailored medical and/or surgical management of the infertile male.
  • Acquired knowledge on expected improvement of male and couple fertility potential in both natural conception and ART-related outcomes.
  • Acquired knowledge on how to integrate male and female management in an ART Center.
  • Acquired knowledge on what the gynaecologist and embryologist expect from the andrologist managing the infertile male.

Innovative aspects of the course
The course will present up-to-date knowledge in managing the infertile male, covering everything from accurate diagnosis to tailored medical and/or surgical treatment, while emphasizing integration with the female partner's management in infertile couples.

Target audience
Andrologists, urologists, embryologists, reproductive endocrinologists, clinicians in reproductive medicine, basic scientists in reproductive medicine, paramedicals, nurses, midwives.
